In my opinion, St. Vincent must be one of the most creative forces in rock music these days. She pretty much never fails to impress me. Apparently, Chicago-based Ace Reporter feel the same way as evidenced by their space-pop, synth-lined cover of her tune “Year of the Tiger.”
Chris Snyder, frontman and primary songwriter for Ace Reporter, explained his decision to cover the tune by saying, “I was really inspired after watching St. Vincent on SNL, so I decided to cover one of my all time favorite St. Vincent songs, ‘Year of the Tiger.’ Even when you know a song well, it’s amazing what you discover when you go through the process of covering it.”
It’s a fitting and catchy homage to the tune and I think you’re going to like it. I’ve also included their darkly atmospheric single “Bronze” below which is one of my favorites off of Ace Reporter’s latest full length Yearling XL which is out now on Ooh La La Records.
