Single Serving: Oscar – “Never Told You” & “I Don’t Care”

If you’re looking for a new artist to get excited about, you need look no further than 22-yo London-based Oscar Scheller. He’s released only three tracks so far, but they are damn good. “Never Told You” opens with a chugging rhythm (likely pinched from “Paid In Full“) balanced alongside bright, shuffling keys. When they enter, Oscar’s vocals, which can alternatively call to mind Morrissey or The Magnetic Fields’ Stephin Merritt, take center stage. It makes for a deliciously catchy slice of confessional bedroom pop. Meanwhile, “I Don’t Care” relies on a blown-out beat and snarling buzzsaw guitars riffs to form the foundation for an alternating melody on a jacked-up, fully-engaging weird-pop jam.
