Single Serving: Wise Blood – Transparent Records 7"

You’ll remember Wise Blood (a.k.a. Pittsburgh’s Christopher Laufman) from the prior Single Serving we featured a little over a month ago.  His physical debut, “Solo (‘4′ Claire)”, is being released by the Musical Pairings’ favorite Transparent Records and drops in November.  The a-side is a departure from his prior work, featuring a stuttering & grimy melody bathed in a fuzz and sludge covered rhythm.  It’s simultaneously sordid and upbeat.  Most importantly, its a great single and demonstrates  versatility as a songwriter by Laufman.  Give it a listen and let me know what you think:

yeah, love the song. Although the rhythm is just a plain rock’n’roll style he manages to let it sound fresh with all that fuzzy guitar. I like it. And with just over 2 minutes it also got the perfect length for such a song in my eyes.
The “ahaha” part in the chorus reminds so much of an old 80’s song. It’s on the tip of my tongue… I’m not sure if it’s a worldwide known song or just a German NDW song. I’ll let you know. I only guess it was a pretty cheesy song.. 😉

  • I absolutely agree. I love a good short song that keeps you wanting more. I felt that way about the Morning Benders “Cold War (Nice Clean Fight)” which didn’t even make the two minute mark, but may have been one of my favorite songs on Big Echo.

Jep, same for me with that Morning Benders song. At least it’s the one song I played the most of that album. Followed by All Day/Day Light.
