Freedom or Death is the Toronto-based duo Steven Fernandez and Sway. Crafting melodies sewn together from a patchwork of acoustic-folk, electronica, rock n’ roll and hip hop, Freedom or Death have set out to distinguish themselves, in part, from the way they reconcile their competing influences and approaches to songwriting. And they have succeeded. On their self-titled debut EP, the potential conflict resulting from so many incluences has clearly paid dividends: each song is a mish-mash of styles that call to mind everything from Radiohead, Bon Iver, Miike Snow, and Primal Scream, and converge into a fully-realized, unique whole.
