Single Serving: Monogem – Wait and See

Monogem

Monogem is a boy girl collaboration comprised of Jen Hirsh and Scott Smith, who introduced themselves to the world earlier this year with an impressive debut called “Wait and See.”

The song is about dreams, and every time I hear it, my mind can’t help but travel to the future. Smith’s synths beat like a robot feeling his heart for the first time. Echoing through a fluorescent lit hallway, it reacts to Jen’s sweet voice calling: “Follow me, follow me, follow…..me.”

When the break hits around the 2:40 mark, the magic radiates from the melody at full strength, the imaginary robot and the intensely lit room spin in opposition, as the truth of the real world tugs it back to reality. The song closes with the tinseling chorus “Don’t wake me – I am dreaming – can’t take me – I’m never leaving.”

I am personally still lost in the fantasy of “Wait and See,” happily. However, Monogem has since followed their glimmering debut with a couple of self described “electro-pop” tracks titled, “Stay with Me” and “Follow You.” Together they’ll have to tide us over until their self-titled EP drops sometime in January of next year. Take a listen below.
