Far from the busy streets of Toronto – and beyond the strip mall riddled concrete jungle that is the suburbs – is where you’ll find what us Ontarians refer to as cottage country. When I first heard “Algonquin” – the opener on Hamilton band Dark Mean’s self-titled debut – I was transported to the lake, among the trees. My happy place. And with the standout track “Albatross” from their new EP, Samuel The Phoenix, that existing sound transforms in new and wonderful ways, but still has me dreaming of fireside s’mores.
You can stream and buy the self-released Samuel The Phoenix EP at the Dark Mean Bandcamp page.
