Single Serving: The Holloys – "Eyes" single

To be honest, I was sold on the Holloys from the bio alone. It reads: “[i]magine if Phil Collins were the lead singer of Talking Heads, and spent time with psychedelic shamans studying enlightenment. Add dual drummers and you get the holloys.” I’ll be damned if that doesn’t sound both crazy and bad ass. And what is even crazier is that the description is dead on. The Holloys lineup currently consists (based on their Myspace page) of frontman Jim Brown, his brother Bryan Lee Brown, Derek Wood, Alvin DeGuzman, and Mike Elliot. Buoyed by a poly-rhythmic rhythm section consisting of dual bass and the aforementioned dual drummers, Jim Brown sings: “I know what is real / and what is made by man / I’ve seen the truth / in the rivers of the land. / I know what is real / and what is passing by / I’ve seen the truth / emotions in the sky.” It is a danceable, psych-pop groove that you’ll want to spin over and over as you tumble down the rabbit hole that the Holloys call “Lake Land.” “Eyes” is available on a split 7″ with the Dengue Fever.
