Toro y Moi is a the alias of Columbia, South Carolina’s Chaz Bundick. The Toro y Moi debut album, Causers of Time, is scheduled for release on February 2, 2010, and it is sure to find an enthusiastic audience. On the most basic level Causers of Time is chillwave, but within the context of that burdgeoning genre, it is particularly lush and demonstrative of a diverse range of influences that include R&B, house, hip hop, and indie rock. For example, on Causers of Time, you’ll hear J Dilla and Daft Punk inspired beats, and lyrics and melodies reminiscent of Animal Collective/Panda Bear. In part, this means bright vocal melodies, funky guitar and synths, and tight beats that you’ll fall in love with. This is headphone music that you’ll want to dance to. If you’ve enjoyed Memory Tapes, MillionYoung, CFCF, etc. you’re going to like this a lot.
