Single Serving: The Morning Benders – Promises single

The Morning Bender’s sophomore album, Big Echo, is one of Musical Pairing most anticipated albums of 2010. Their 2008 debut album, Talking Through Tin Cans, was lush, beautiful and full of catchy melodies and punchy hooks – and just overflowing with promise of even better things to come. I had the opportunity to catch a live performance of several of the songs off Big Echo back when they opened for John Vanderslice at an intimate gig at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco last year, and if the live renditions are any indication, Big Echo is going to be huge. It was produced by Chris Taylor from Grizzly Bear and will be released on Rough Trades. It’s safe to say 2010 could be their year the way 2009 belonged to Grizzly Bear and Girls. Big Echo isn’t due until March 9, 2010, but they released a free MP3 sneak preview of the track “Promises” from Big Echo which I’ve provided a link to below. If “Promises” is any indication, the Morning Benders have started to crystallize their own unique sound, and on “Promises” that means a clever pop song that revolves around a tight, punchy groove. “Promises” will be available as a 7″ on February 23, 2010.
