  1. Single Serving: Alcoholic Faith Mission – And The Running With Insanity EP

Alcoholic Faith Mission are a Brooklyn-based six-piece indie-folk collective let by a duo of Danish song-writers, Thorben Seierø Jensen and Sune Sølund, that I recently discovered in my Sound Cloud Dropbox the other day.  The track that caught my attention – “Running With Insanity” – is from their latest EP And The Running With Insanity.  It is one of those tracks that immediately catches your attention with a hand-clap happy rhythm and upbeat, whimsical harmonies and a woozy melody.  Strumming acoustic guitars, lush percussion and jubilant strings make for an irresistible indie-pop song that can call to mind a touch of Paul Simon and a dash of Portland’s Typhoon. It’s an eclectic EP with quirky, wandering melodies and adventurous, clever song-writing that simultaneously covers a lot of ground without ever straying far from their core sound thanks to dual vocalists and thoughtful instrumentation.  A few other standouts include the track “When They Bleed” and “Drowning (In Myself).”  Much thanks to the fine folks at Paper Garden Records for forwarding this to my attention!

  2. Single Serving: Mickey Brown – Vision Quest

I got a new one for ya that I think you’re gonna like.  Mickey Brown is a collaboration between Los Angeles’ Mickey Mickey Rourke and Canadian Lester Brown blending dream pop, tropical rhythms, and psychedelic soul.  So what does it sound like?  Sunny psychedelic melodies waft like early-morning light filling a sound space filled with texture and vintage synth instrumentation.  Bright synths sparkle wistfully alongside laid-back, drugged-out beats.  It’s glo-fi.  It’s hazy.  It’s the debut full length for the collaboration, and it’s titled Vision Quest.  It’s also available from their bandcamp page.

    Some thoughts for you:

    1) What do you think: like/dislike/love?  They both have solo albums that you may be seeing around here soon, so I’d love to hear your feedback.
    2) Sparkly, hazy, synth-pop. Is this chillwave? Is it something else?  I’m leaning towards “something else,” but would love to hear your take.
    3) I bet these guys could rock a great remix.  Who’d you like to hear them tackle?

  3. Single Serving: LAKE R▲DIO – The Weather EP

LAKE R▲DIO (a.k.a. Caden Moore) produces downtempo electronica.   His latest release is the Weather EP which is available as a free download from his bandcamp site.  The dude’s tunes generally consist of downtempo, occasionally dissonant, electronica that at his best moments favorably calls to mind portions of Boards of Canada’s Geogaddi married to Washed Out’s Belong.   If you like electro-pop, chillwave, or downtempo techno,  I think you’ll find something to love here.
