  1. Single Serving: Bully – Trying

Though it’s done is a familiar 90s alt-rock swatch, Bully leader Alicia Bognanno makes the genre feel new. “Trying” is a coming-of-age song that oozes with uncertainty and frustration. These emotions are further heightened by Bully’s lo-fi rock sound and Bognanno’s powerful yawps. The perfect summer song for new graduates or lost twenty-something year olds.

  2. Single Serving: Wolf Alice – Giant Peach

I’m not usually one to listen to music that could be describe as face melting but I have to make an exception for the U.K. band  Wolf Alice. “Giant Peach,” a preview of the band’s forthcoming record My Love is Cool, is a bold, guitar-heavy track that is only played right if it’s played loud. As lead vocalist Ellie Rowsell throws her vocals around, landing anywhere from low snarls to emotional high-pitched screams, the multiple dance-inducing guitar riffs follow suit to form a powerful pair. Take the song’s juicy title as a preview of the sweetness that lies inside the song.

  3. Single Serving: Night Manager – Pizza Pasta

Lo-fi pop music bleeding slightly-muddied, reverb-drenched guitars and sunshiny harmonies? Sure we’ve heard it in a few other places the past couple of summers, but with their latest single Brooklyn-based Night Manager has pretty firmly established that there is still room on our plates for another helping — especially when it includes more than a dash of quality song-writing.  Well, for me anyways, their latest single “Pizza Pasta” hits all the right buttons, and in turn, I keep finding myself hitting “play”.
