Single Serving: TV Girl – TV Girl EP

You’ll recall San Diego’s TV Girl from our recently released November 2010 Mix.  By way of a little background, TV Girl is the project of duo Trung Ngo and Brad Peterson.  Their recently unveiled self-titled debut EP is free on their bandcamp page and features a series of upbeat tunes that makes indifference sound like it might really be synonymous for having too much fun.  The standout track from this EP is the Todd Rundgren sampling cut “If You Want It.”  It’s a shimmering, but woozy lament from the perspective of a disposable lover, “one last dance and then you delete me from your phone.”  Nonetheless, the fellas from TV Girl don’t seem to mind being used, as they conclude on the chorus: “If you want it, then you’ll get it.”  The preceding track, “I Don’t Care,” is a jittery, bawdy bopper laying out just how much they really, really don’t care about stock market crashes, wars, air pollution, and more, in a way that calls to mind a more roughly-hewn and obscenely glittering version of R.E.M.’s “It’s The End of the World (And I Feel Fine).”  Seriously, try on these rapid-fire lyrics for fun: “I smoke a pack of reds and drink a six pack every day.  I want to stay sane and there ain’t no better way . . . the SATs are unfair — I don’t really care — there are toxins in the air — I don’t really care — the market dropped a million shares — I don’t really care — people are oppressed, but I couldn’t care less — because I don’t really care.”

Go ahead and download the EP by following the link above — or don’t — after all, I don’t really care.
