Single Serving: Bon Iver – Various Covers (Revisited)

November 9th, 2009

4088017486 909c32a303 Single Serving: Bon Iver Various Covers (Revisited)In case you missed it, Kasey and I are big fans of Justin Vernon’s work under the name Bon Iver. We’d previously posted a number of covers performed by Bon Iver that weren’t at the time shared on any other music blogs. Since that time the MP3s have turned up on a few other blogs. In the meantime, I’ve collected two more for you. One of the two is a superior recording on Bon Iver’s cover of the Outfield’s track “Your Love.” The other was an MP3 I found over on the excellent site i guess i’m floating. If you haven’t already picked up the Bon Iver debut album For Emma, Forever Ago, you should do so now: it is really, really good.

P.S. Justin does not provide lead vocals on the covers of “Tampa to Tulsa” and “Simple Man,” but he does the guitar and beautiful backing vocals. I especially enjoy the “Tampa to Tulsa” cover.

Bon Iver – Your Love (the Outfield Cover)(better quality recording)
Bon Iver – I Feel Like Going Home (Yo La Tengo Cover)

previously posted tracks:
Bon Iver – The Park (Feist Cover)
Bon Iver – Mercury (Kathleen Edwards Cover)
Bon Iver – I Believe In You (Talk Talk Cover)
Bon Iver – Lovins’ For Fools (Sarah Siskind Cover feat. The Bowerbirds)
Bon Iver – Tampa to Tulsa (Jayhawks Cover)
Bon Iver – Blue Tulip (Okkervil River Cover)
Bon Iver – Simple Man (Graham Nash Cover)
Bon Iver – Every Grain of Sand (Bob Dylan Cover)

Bonus (not a cover):
Bon Iver – Skinny Love (live on the Late Show with David Letterman)

No offense, but I definitely had seen most of the above covers posted before I saw them on Musical Pairings. But still worth posting, of course, since these covers are amazing.

Fair enough. I just based my comment on a search I performed on hypem.com: http://hypem.com/#/search/Bon%20Iver%20Cover/1/ With the exception of the Feist, Okkervil River, and Outfield Cover – none of the other MP3s are listed on either of those sites prior to our post in August. Aside from those three tracks, the other MP3s I'd sourced from videos of these songs which I'd collected from a number of other sources. Anyways, it hardly matters – after all, I didn't record any of these myself. So the credit really goes to the tapers – whose names are unknown to me.

Ok, I have to eat my words – reviewing the link from my own search I can see that the Kathleen Edwards and Talk Talk covers also appeared before our post. So that pretty much just leaves the Dylan, Nash, Jayhawks, and Siskind covers.

Indeed, fair enough. This Sarah Siskind cover has also been circulating since last year (Bon Iver covering Sarah Siskind, with Siskind herself): http://www.fuelfriendsblog.com/2008/09/07/lovins-for-fools-bon-iver-covers-sarah-siskind-gives-me-shivers/

Hi, Just discovered this and must say I'm delighted. The Tampa to Tulsa track seems to cut out to silence about a third of the way through. Any way you could check on it? Thank you.

  • Matthew

Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed the MP3 and Tampa to Tulsa should play fine now. Enjoy!
